Michael Porter in Romania

Just got out of Michael Porter's first conference here. For over two hours of discourse and Q&A he has focused on (genuine, sustainable) uniqueness and differentiation as a key part of strategy. That made me ask myself (half proudly, half frustratedly) how can branding not be an essential part of business management when the field's top guru is saying that?

Slides will seemingly be available online, I'll tell you where when I find out.

It's contagious

And I'm exhausted after several days of roaming the country... so I couldn't avoid catching the harmless lolinator bug from Bogdana's new blog.

Monopoly: How an Entertainment Brand Provided Real Service to People in Need

Via BB, the venerable board game Monopoly was used during WWII to secretly dispatch escape kits to Allied POWs held in European Axis countries! A maraviglioso example of how a humble brand can transcend its use and get used to the greater good of humanity.

Disclosure: I used to be a super-heavy player of the said game, and even built two game sets manually as a kid. Plus, I'm a WWII history diletante, so you figure why this post just had to be here :)
